John James Audubon’s Birds of America is well-known for its historical and artistic value. This volume of 70 plates is from the so-called “Lockwood Edition” due to the publisher. Other than the colored backgrounds which were added to all post-first editions, the main images on these prints are, for the most part, identical to those of the First Edition and feature hand-coloring. J.T. Bowen was lithographer for the work. They are on high quality commercially woven paper that measures 6 ľ" by 10 ˝".
