Description of James Bolton's Harmonia Ruralis

These wonderful hand-colored engravings are from the work entitled Harmonia Ruralis; Or, An Essay Towards a Natural History of British Song Birds by James Bolton.  Bolton was a naturalist and painter living near Halifax his entire life.  This work is his best, coming after others featuring ferns and fungi.  The prints we have are from the second edition, published in 1824 by W.T. Gilling in London.  It is commonly acknowledged that the coloring is far superior in this second edition than the first edition.  We are selling these prints in pairs: the bird along with the print featuring its eggs and nest.  They are on fine paper that measures ~8 1/4" by 11".
