Description of E.T. Booth's Birds Observed on the British Islands

These original hand-colored lithographs, based on the drawings of E. Neale, are from E.T. Booth's well-known work entitled Rough Notes on the Birds Observed during Twenty-five Years' Shooting and Collecting in the British Islands.  This work was published in London from 1881 through 1887 by R.H. Porter.  Immediately upon observing these plates, one notices that they are quite unique in their appearance compared to other ornithological works of the time.  The colors have a pastel appearance that seem to blend with each other which gives the prints a very pleasant artistic effect.   They are on heavy stock paper that measures ~ 12 1/2" by 16 1/2".
