Description of George Brookshaw's Pomona Britannica

Created by the talented George Brookshaw, these most famous prints portray the essence of the golden age of natural art history.   Combining aquatint, stipple, and linear engraving with a fair amount of hand coloring, Brookshaw enlivened his sujects.   His work, Pomona Britannica or a " Collection of the Most Esteemed Fruits at Present Cultivated in this Country; Together with the Blossoms and Leaves of Such that are Necessary to Distinguish the Various Sorts from Each Other.  Selected principally from the Royal Gardens at Hampton Court and the remainder from the Most  Celebrated Gardens around London," is considered one of the very best of its kind.  Begun in 1804, the work took around 8 years to complete and was published in London in 1812.  They are on fine, heavy stock paper and measure ~ 18" by 23".
