Curtis's Botanical Magazine

Curtis’s Botanical Magazine , Comprising the plants of the Royal Gardens at Kew and of other Botanical Establishments in Great Britain London: L. Reeve & Co., 1866, Volume 22 of the third series, or 92 of the entire series; 66 hand-colored lithographed plates (6 of these are folding), breaker copy

William Curtis began the publication of Botanical Magazine in 1787 and it is still in publication today. The descriptions in this volume, published in 1866, were written by Joseph Dalton Hooker, director of the Royal Gardens at Kew. Walter Hood Fitch was the sole illustrator of the publication at that time. In his lifetime, Fitch created an estimated 9,000 to 10,000 plates, often drawing directly on the lithographic stone to save time and accuracy.
