This beautiful botanical print comes from the German work Der Obstboeume... This German edition was published c1770s by Winterschmidt in Nuremberg. It is the German edition of Henry Louis Duhamel du Mounceau's work Traite des Arbres Fruitiers; contenant leur figure, leur description, leur culture... The plates for this work were done after illustrations by Aubriet, Basseporte, and Le Berriays.
Duhamel was versed in the natural history of trees, and introduced forest botany in his botanical works. This work is considered a very fine and rare work on fruit with great importance in its field. The prints feature later professional hand-coloring.
The prints are on fine chain-linked paper that measure ~ 7 3/4" by 10".
