Description of Masson and Piazza's L'Estampe Moderne
These brightly colored lithographed posters are from L'Estampe Moderne published under the supervision of C. Masson and H. Piazza in Paris in 1897-1899. This famous collection included works by major art nouveau artists including Alphonse Mucha, Louis Rhead, Marcel Lenoir, Henri Boutet, Henri Fantin-Latour, Edward Burne-Jones, and Théophile Steinlen. The intention of this work was to "reanimate and disseminate the taste for prints" (issue 24). Each group contains 4 or 5 individual prints along with the stunning cover with an illustration by Alphonse Mucha. Every print has the blind stamp of a woman's profile in the bottom right corner. Please see the photos below for examples of each. So popular was this collection, that even Les Maîtres de l'Affiche, another well-known poster publication, was surpassed by the beauty of L'Estampe Moderne's large format on excellent quality paper that measures ~ 12" by 16".
