Seymour Haden's Etchings
Sir Francis Seymour Hamerton is perhaps the best known etcher of the 19th century. After earning his medical degree as a surgeon, he explored his great interest in the art of etching. He poured over pieces by the great original engravers including Albrecht Durer, Lucas van Leyton, and Rembrandt. These diligent studies, along with many others, led Haden to be the foremost expert on the seemingly lost art, and brought about its revival.
