Description of Alexander Jamieson's A Celestial Map

These detailed celestial engravings are from the work entitled A Celestial Atlas Comprising a Systematic Display of the Heavens by Alexander Jamieson, published in London by G. & W. B. Whittake in 1822. The main constellation, or constellations, on each plate is lightly highlighted with recent professional hand color, while the surrounding sky, with its numerous stars and constellations is left without color. This work is considered one of the finest celestial works from its era and was dedicated to King George IV. They are on fine, water marked paper that measures ~ 10 1/2" by 13 3/4".
