Description of Jan Luyts & Nicolas Sanson's Intorducio ad Geographiam Novam et Veterem
This marvelous, hand-colored map is from the rare work entitled Intorducio ad Geographiam Novam et Veterem. A Dutch cartographer named Jan (Johannis) Luyts authored this atlas, based mostly on engravings made by Nicolas Sanson and Antoine de Winter. The maps for sale here are all by Sanson. Francois Halma, a publisher and bookseller with a love of geography published the work in Utrecht in 1692. Nicolas Sanson was geographer to the king and has been called the Founder of the French School of Geography. They are on fine chain-linked, watermarked paper that measures ~ 12 1/8" by 8 3/4".
