Description
F.H. Martini's Neues Systematisches Conchylien-Cabinet
This scientific and decorative shell engraving is from Neues Systematisches Conchylien-Cabinet by F. H. Martini and J. H. Chemnitz. Published between 1769 and 1781, Neues Systematisches featured numerous copper engravings as part of the first large scale iconography of shells illustrated in color.
An extremely rare work, Neues Systematisches depicts shells drawn after the personal collections of royalty and nobility at the time, including the King of Denmark, Schroter, and Seba. Each plate is on high-quality, chain-linked, watermarked paper.
