Description of Louis Noisette's Le Jardin Fruitier
These beautiful delicately hand-coloured plates are from Le Jardin Fruitier, a book published in 1821 by Louis Claude Noisette to document the cultivation and uses of fruit trees. Noisette is windly regarded as the outstanding aquatinter of the period, next to Redouté. He was superintendent of the botanical garden at Val-de-Grâce. He later established his own botanical garden and became one of the leading gardening authorities in Europe. The prints, which have recently been professionally hand colored, are on fine chain linked paper measuring ~ 9" by 11 1/4".
