Description

V. Paquet's Centurie des plus belles roses

These beautiful prints are from V. Paquet's Centurie des plus belles roses. The work was published by Dusacq in Paris from 1845 to 1846. It is very rare, listed in neither Dunthorne nor de Belder. The prints are from the original parts and are uncut, large margin copies.

The work was printed using the aquatint process, but is especially unique because it used multiple passes to achieve color prints. Each print was then skillfully finished by hand. The work represents one of the most complex examples of this technique. The artist was Annica Bricogne. The engraver, N. Rémond, also engraved Laurent Berlèse's Natural History Studies of Camellias, which is highly regarded for its fine plates and often considered to be the most important work on camellias ever published.

The magnificent large size plates are in the manner of Gerard Van Spaendonch, esteemed flower painter of Le Jardin du Roi, and Pierre-Joseph Redouté, one of the world's greatest flower painters.

Prints are on fine paper measuring 11 1/4" by 15 5/8".
