Description of William Henry Pyne's The History of the Royal Residences

This highly decorative hand-colored aquatints are from the work entitled The History of the Royal Residences of Windsor Castle, Carlton House, Kensington Palace, Hampton Court, Buckingham House and Frogmore. The work was published by William Henry Pyne in 1819 in London. Several famous artists were part of creating this lavish work, including Rowlandson, F. P. Stephanoff, W. J. Bennett, D. Havell, Sutherland, and Wild. Great Britain was a dominant force in the world during the 1800s. The power they held is displayed magnificently in these prints. Each was first printed with one tint with a great many more then colors added by hand. This resulted in meticulous detail showcasing the architecture as well as the decorative furnishings of these fine homes of the British Royalty. They are on fine, woven paper and at least one print bears a J Whatman 1816 watermark. Each measures ~ 13 1/4" by 10 3/4" with a plate mark that measures ~ 12 1/2" by 10".
