Description of Luigi Rossini's Le Antichita Romane

These marvelous unfolded engravings are from Luigi Rossini's work entitled Le Antichita Romane, ossia Raccolta della piu interessante Vedute di Roma Antica, published in Rome in the 1820s. Rossini's work is often associated with that of Piranesi. Though Rossini's works are somewhat less tumultuous than Piranesi's, they are certainly no less impressive. Rossini, like Piranesi, found inspiration in the ruins of Ancient Rome and it filled his page with magnificent renderings of a lost age. They are on fine woven paper. Each varies in size, but they are approximately 21 1/2" by 31 1/2". They are unfolded plates.
