Description of Georg Mattheus Seutter's Atlas Novum

These magnificent, highly detailed maps come from the Atlas Novus sive Tabulae Geographicae Totius Orbis Faciem... by Georg Mattheus Seutter published c.1740. Seutter was a well-known German cartographer of the 18th century. His career took him from an apprenticeship under Johann Baptiste Homann in Nuremberg, to owning his own printing business in Augsburg, to an appointment as the Geographer to the Imperial Court of Germany. His maps are known for their minute details, fine, original hand-coloring, and overall decorative appearance. This work is considered one of his finest. Each fold-out map is on fine, laid paper that measures ~ 24" by 21".
