Description of Robert Sweet's British Flower Garden

These quaint engravings come from the work entitled The British Flower Garden, (series the second,) containing coloured figures & descriptions, of the Ornamental & Curious Hardy Flowering Plants by Robert Sweet, published in the 1830's. Sweet was a horticulturist, who worked at several English plant nurseries and produced several botanical books. He gained even greater fame, however, when he was charged with receiving a box of plants stolen from the royal gardens at Kew. He was acquitted after a well-publicized trial. They are on fine chain-linked, watermarked paper that measures ~ 6" by 9 3/4".
