Description of Daniel Wagner's Pharmaceutisch-Medicinische Botanik
These rare hand-colored lithographs are from the work entitled Pharmaceutisch-Medicinische Botanik written by Daniel Wagner, illustrated by Ignaz Stenzel, and published in 1828-1830 in Vienna. Though it is a delightful work, Botanik is surprisingly unknown, being unmentioned by several famous catalogs of botanical prints, including those by Blunt and Dunthorne. "It undoubtedly contains [Stenzel's] best botanical illustrations and brings to an appropriate and glorious conclusion the succession of great Viennese botanical artists initiated by Jacquin." (Sotherby's Magnificent Botanical Books) They are on top-quality woven paper that measures ~12 1/4" by 18".
