Robert Warner's The Orchid Album

The Orchid Album Comprising Coulored Figures and Descriptions of New, Rare, and Beautiful Orchidaceous Plants; London: B.S. Williams, 1883, Volume 2; 48 hand-colored lithographed plates; recently bound

This volume of Robert Warner's work, The Orchid Album, Comprising Coloured Figures and Descriptions of New, Rare, and Beautiful Orchidaceous Plants contains 48 original, hand-colored lithographs. Edited by Robert Warner and Henry Williams, these magnificent botanicals seem to come to life on the page. The descriptions were created by Thomas Moore, curator of the Chelsea Botanic Gardens. The images were both painted and lithographed by John Nugent Fitch, nephew of the well-known artist Walter H. Fitch. Benjamin S. Williams published the work in London at the Victoria and Paradise Nurseries from 1882-1897. The Orchid Album is one of the most beautiful and complete works on orchids ever done. They are on fine, heavy stock paper and measure ~ 12 1/4" by 9 3/4".
