Description of Henry Shields' Famous Clyde Yachts

These wonderful chromolithographs are from the work entitled Famous Clyde Yachts 1880-1887 from Original Water Colour Drawings by Henry Shields, published in London by Oatts and Runciman in 1888. The images in this work are mounted on heavy stock paper and look so realistic they could be mistaken for the original watercolors! James Meikle, known for his yachting knowledge, compiled them and wrote the descriptions in the work. As he wrote in the work's preface, an attempt has been made in this work, "by means of picture and story, to present...a few of the salient features in the history of some of the more notable yachts...connected in one way or another with the Clyde." They are ~ 19 3/4" by 14 1/2", with most of the image areas measuring 11" by 8".
